• Crawford Family says Hugh Welch was born in Chickasaw Co., Mississippi. The 1930 census listing Gates' household also says he was born in Mississippi. Findagrave.com says he was born abt 1829. He's listed in the 1900 census as being the father-in-law in Gates Wood's household, born in 1835 but age 70. The 1900 census says he was born in Alabama.
• Crawford Family says Elizabeth Smith was born in 1834. The 1930 census listing Gates' household says she was born in Mississippi.
• The Chickasaw Times Past calls her Margaret Roxana Welch. Findagrave.com calls her Margaret Roxanna. Findagrave.com says she was born 5 Mar.
